In 2017, India became the largest importer of Almonds. It imports most of it from USA as its is the largest producer of Almonds, providing 46% of the total.
The USDA pasteurization laws require these almonds to be pasteurized before they are sold or exported. Pasteurization is a process in which certain packaged and non-packaged foods are treated with mild heat, usually to less than 100 °C (212 °F), to eliminate pathogens and to extend shelf life. Pasteurization actually “kills” food and makes it less nutritious.
