Winter skincare tips to help you glow during cold & dry days.

Winter is the time of year when our skin needs more attention, and for a good reason! It's cold outside which can lead to dry skin, and in the midst of the chilly weather, we all tend to indulge a bit more too. The colder weather can wreak havoc on your skin's moisture levels, which is why winter skin care is all about keeping the skin protected from drying out.

Winter is always a tough season on the skin, but the right routine can make all the difference. In this blog, we will discuss some top tips for how to keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful, even when it feels like the coldest months of the year!

Common Winter Skin Problems:

The colder weather and lack of humidity in the air can cause a number of skin problems to arise in winter. These include,

    Dry skin:

Cold weather and low humidity levels can cause the skin to become dry, cracked and flaky. Dry skin looks very dull, hard and can be very difficult to deal with.

    Irritated skin:

Cold weather can also irritate existing skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Dry skin can easily get itchy and prone to redness

    Cold sores:

These are small blisters that appear on the lips or around the mouth. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus and can be painful.

    Chapped lips:

The lack of humidity in the air during winter can make your lips dry out and chap. Cracks in the lips can be uncomfortable and unsightly.

    Dry eyes:

Low humidity levels can cause the eyes to become dry and irritated. This is known as dry eye syndrome and can be very uncomfortable.

    Dermatitis:

This is a general term for any inflammatory skin condition. It can be caused by a number of things, including allergies, irritants or infections. Such skin condition becomes very during cold winter days.

Tips for preventing dryness during winter:

The winter is dry, and that can lead to skin feeling tight and itchy. There are some things you can do to help your skin stay comfortable, look healthy, and be protected when the cold hits. Skincare products in winter will help moisturize your skin, which helps protect it from outside irritants and harsh conditions.

Here are a few of our favourite winter skin care tips:

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

This is the most important step in any winter skincare routine. Winter is here, and for some of us, that means dry, cracked skin on our hands, feet and face. Forget about the cold - if you're not using the proper lotions and moisturizers to keep your skin soft and supple then you're going to have a miserable time this season.

A good moisturizer can do wonders for dry skin. Apply it liberally and often, especially after showering or bathing when your skin is most vulnerable to drying out. Moisturizer locks in hydration for a longer duration.

Be sure to moisturize your skin well both in the morning and at night. A thicker cream or ointment may be necessary for the colder months to keep your skin hydrated. Products with glycerine or shea butter for extra hydration are very neccesary.

Moisturizers are mostly of 4 types.

They are Body Butter, Body Lotion, Body Milk and Body Cream. The major differences between these products are their consistency and moisturizing properties. You can choose in accordance with your skin type and keep your skin glowing during the entire season.

    Use a gentle cleanser:

Choose a cleanser that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Instead of soaps, you can use Body Wash or Bathing Bars that are gentle on your skin’s texture and can also nourish the skin.

    Exfoliate regularly:

Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells that can build up and make your skin look dull. We recommend exfoliating 2-3 times per month using a gentle body scrub  or exfoliating brush. This will help to reveal brighter, more radiant skin.

    Use a humidifier:

The dry winter air can do a number on your skin (and your sinuses!). Using a humidifier in your home or office can help to add some much-needed moisture back into the air and keep your skin from drying out. Just be sure to clean your humidifier regularly to prevent bacteria buildup!

    Drink plenty of water:

Though we might not feel too thirsty in winter, keeping the body hydrated from the inside out is essential for healthy skin year-round. It’s especially important in the winter because the air is dryer and can sap moisture from your skin more easily.

    Avoid hot showers and baths:

While they might feel relaxing, hot showers and baths actually strip away natural oils from your skin, leaving it more susceptible to dryness. If you want to avoid cold water, go for lukewarm instead.

    Eat a balanced diet:

Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats will help give your skin the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and glowy all winter long!

Conclusion:

Winter skin problems are very common, but that doesn't mean you have to suffer through them. By following these simple tips, you can help prevent winter skin problems and keep your skin looking its best all season long. Remember to moisturize regularly, drink plenty of water, and protect your skin from the cold and wind. With just a little bit of effort, you can have gorgeous skin in winter too.
